Do you think and act like a CEO in your beauty business?
As the head/only honcho of your beauty business, chances are you’re wearing all the hats: the maker, the service provider, the marketer, the seller, sometimes even the shipper! You’re ALL. THE. THINGS.
But do you find yourself spending way more time as the creator/service provider in your beauty biz than you do as the CEO in your business?
If so, I’ve got 3 strategies that’ll help you think and act like a CEO in your beauty business. ‘Cause after all, they don’t call it the beauty business for nothin’!
Be the Visionary
As the head honcho, your primary role is to be the visionary in your biz. The driver of the bus, the captain of the ship, the conductor of the train (okay I’ll quit it with the transportation metaphors!).
Your business needs vision to grow. It needs direction, a sense of purpose, and expansive possibility. These are the dreamy feels that drive our business forward and what gets us buzzing with excitement to bring our brand to life.
Stepping into the Visionary role in your business is really where the magic happens. It’s where you can paint that beautiful picture of the future, think through those awesome ideas, and get those bursts of inspo and ah-ha’s.
And you need to give yourself time and space for that dreamy work. ‘Cause otherwise you’ll keep on truckin’ with no real direction. And what the heck’s the point in that?!
What do you want your life and business to look like in one year, five years, ten years?
What’s the big vision + the why behind your business?
What do you want to be known for?
These are a few burnin’ q’s that I love to dig into with my clients to get to the heart of why they do what they do and define the vision behind their brand so we can create a brand strategy roadmap to get them where they wanna go.
Get real with your numbers
Did reading that just give you hives? If talking about money makes you want to throw up in your mouth a little bit or gives you a serious case of night sweats, please stick with me here!
For YEARS, I told myself that I wasn’t a numbers person (math = gross).
Net income? Profit and loss? What-the-what?! But when I left my cushy corporate gig and entered the wonderful world of freelance, I had to get cozy with finance – fast!
‘Cause here’s the truth: hot mess beauty brands don’t make red hot bank. And if you want to be raking in the profits m’friend, you’ve gotta get real with your numbers first. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
How much money do you need to make to cover your business expenses?
Are there any costs you could cut or profit-sucking products/services that you could ditch?
What kind of salary do you need to bring in to support your family?
How will your marketing efforts support your sales goals?
Understanding your money stuff will reveal opportunities to boost your bottom line and empower you to take ownership over your finances like a BOSS.
Focusing on the one thing
Solopreneurs often get caught up in doing #allthethings in their biz, which takes them away from the important CEO tasks – the big picture stuff that really should dictate all the activities within the biz.
And yet, how often do we let distractions and competing priorities take over our entire schedule?
Getting super strategic with your time, energy and focus is crucial for getting shit done…and I know that’s the kinda traction you want to see in your beauty biz!
If you find yourself swimming in overwhelm on the daily, try this:
Do a braindump for 10 mins on all the things you’ve got on your plate right now. Get everything outta that pretty lil’ head of yours and onto paper.
Looking at your list, ask yourself these filter questions:
Does it have to get done now?
Does it have to get done by me?
Does it have to get done at all?
Once you’ve edited your list, ask yourself this golden q:
Does this project/task align with my business goals + will doing this thing move me closer towards achieving it?
When you stop, collaborate and listen to your inner guidance, you’ll be able to adjust your priority list with more ease and confidence. And that’s what a laser-focused beauty boss does!
Take back control over your time and energy by focusing on the one thing that’s gonna move the needle forward in your business and give you’self permission to put everything else on the backburner (for now). Ahhhhh, doesn’t that feel SO much better?!
The Bottom Line
When you spend the majority of your time working IN your business instead of working ON your business, it’s easy to get lost in a flurry of confusion, overwhelm, and distraction. And ain’t nobody got time for that…especially a visionary vixen like YOU!
If you feel more blah than Beyonce in your beauty biz, you’ve gotta check yourself before you wreck yourself and I hope that these three strategies help you clear the mental clutter that’s holding you back from awesome, goal crushin’ success!

I especially loved the section about being a visionary. Asking the necessary big picture questions and setting goals and milestones is so so important. Loved this!
